“Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand.”
— Stevie Wonder

A message from our Subject Leader:
”As the Music lead at Willow Farm Primary School, I feel incredibly lucky to see the joy, confidence and creativity that music brings to our children every day. Music has a special place in our school community, and I love helping our pupils discover just how powerful it can be. We are the music hub school for Gedling and support local schools in our area and in our trust with music advice and events.
I want every child to feel that music is for them. Through singing, playing instruments, listening and performing, our children learn to express themselves, work together and understand the world in new and exciting ways. Singing is at the heart of what we do at Willow Farm. It strengthens our sense of community, supports wellbeing and gives children a wonderful way to share their voices with pride. It also helps them remember key learning, as chanting and rhythm are brilliant tools for building long‑term memory.
Performance plays an important role in our curriculum. When children rehearse and perform together, they learn how to collaborate, listen and support one another. Their instrumental skills grow through practice and perseverance, helping them see that commitment leads to achievement. If there is a chance to perform somewhere then Willow Farm get involved! Listening to music from a wide range of genres and cultures encourages our children to reflect, respond and talk confidently about what they hear, using rich and varied musical vocabulary.”
Mrs Kirkham, Music Lead
