“Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries; for mathematics, the cultural world is one country.”
— David Hilbert

A Message from our Subject Leader:
‘I’m delighted to be the maths lead here at Willow Farm Primary School. I have always enjoyed mathematics because it is both creative and logical: it challenges us to think carefully, look for patterns, and solve problems in different ways. When pupils realise they can tackle a difficult problem step by step, it gives them a real sense of achievement. I believe maths is important not only in the classroom but also in everyday life, helping us make decisions, understand the world around us, and develop strong reasoning skills. My aim is to show that everyone can succeed with practise, curiosity, and a positive mindset.”

What Is Maths Mastery?
Teaching maths for mastery is a transformational approach to maths teaching which stems from high performing Asian nations such as Singapore. When taught to master maths, children develop their mathematical fluency without resorting to rote learning and are able to solve non-routine maths problems without having to memorise procedures.
When teaching maths for mastery, the whole class moves through topics at broadly the same pace. Each topic is studied in depth and the teacher does not move to the next stage until all children demonstrate that they have a secure understanding of mathematical concepts.
