What a busy weekend we have had here at Willow Farm! Usually on a Friday we wish all our children a happy weekend until Monday – but not this week! Friday night saw lots of our brilliant singers turn on the lights at the Gedling tree and then join All Hallow’s choir at the church to start advent with a beautiful concert.
And if that wasn’t enough for one weekend, on Sunday morning lots of families and staff met up at Gedling park for the Gedling Junior Park Run Willow Farm Takeover! We were so proud of our children for taking on the hills and representing our school so brilliantly. We are the first primary school to ‘take over’ Gedling Park run, and we are already planning our next event in 2026. Community is at the heart of Willow Farm – it is what helps our children grow with PRIDE, what connects us beyond the school gates, and what turns events like these into special memories. We are so grateful for everyone who plays a part in making Willow Farm community so special.

Our Year 6 Lions have returned from their action-packed residential to Robin Hood’s Bay – and what a time they had! From beach art masterpieces and rockpool discoveries to dramatic cliff-top walks, they made the most of every moment.
After exploring the beach and warming up with a short walk to the famous Boggle Hole (no boggles spotted – phew!), the real challenge came on day two: a stunning 7-mile hike all the way to Whitby. The Lions showed real determination and teamwork throughout, with plenty of laughs, snacks, and support along the way.
That evening, the fun continued with the much-anticipated talent show, where one group stole the spotlight by performing their own version of Party in the USA – rewritten as “Party in Robin Hood’s Bay!” It was a brilliant end to a joyful day.
Throughout the trip, every child showed our PRIDE values – they were Positive, Responsible, Inquisitive, Determined, and Empathetic. They truly were a pleasure to take away and represented Willow Farm brilliantly.
Well done, Lions – we’re so proud of you!

Last Friday, we were delighted to welcome our local MP, Michael Payne, to Willow Farm. He was keen to hear more about our new nursery, opening this September, and wanted to see the plans for where the DfE-funded project will be.
During his visit, he answered some brilliant and thoughtful questions from our Year 6 pupils, who represented the school with confidence and curiosity. Michael also enjoyed seeing OPAL play in action and meeting pupils outside as they made the most of their lunchtime.
It was a fantastic visit, and we’d like to thank Michael for taking the time to come to see our wonderful school.

This afternoon, we came together for something truly special—our ‘Big Build’ event! Thanks to the amazing efforts of our children, families, and wider community, and arranged and led by our brilliant OPAL leader, Mrs Syalon, we now have a fantastic mud kitchen and café for the children to play with at playtime.
As an OPAL Platinum school, we know how vital high-quality play is for our children’s development, and today was a perfect example of what we can achieve when we work together. The creativity, teamwork, and dedication shown by everyone involved were truly inspiring.
A huge thank you to all who contributed their time, skills, and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to see the children’s imaginations run wild as they cook up muddy masterpieces and serve up smiles in their new café!

On March 15 some of our Year 5 and 6 children enjoyed an exciting creative writing workshop. Renowned poet Jamie Thrasivoulou, along with Miss Busby, led the hour-long sessions. They encouraged students to express their thoughts and feelings through poetry. Jamie shared his experiences as a poet, inspiring students to find their unique voices. Miss Busby supported the students in refining their work. The workshops wrapped up with students sharing their poems, showcasing their creativity and confidence. Well done, everyone! Some poets in the making for sure 🙂

Today, Willow Farm transformed into a magical world of stories as children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters or in cozy pyjamas, ready for a bedtime story. The day kicked off with a “book and a butty” family breakfast, where children enjoyed their favourite reads alongside tasty sausage cobs. Throughout the day, the children will be taking part in various activities celebrating the joy of reading, from storytelling sessions to book-themed crafts. We are all set for a day of excitement and imagination, highlighting the importance of books in our lives. Happy reading!

Willow Farm Primary was buzzing with excitement as Carlton Brass Band visited for a special assembly! Pupils learned about brass instruments, enjoyed live music, and even had a chance to try playing themselves – with some very entertaining results.
We’re excited to welcome the band back for our carol service at All Hallows Church on the last day of term. A big thank you to Carlton Brass Band for inspiring us with your fantastic music! 🎺✨

We are thrilled to introduce a new tradition at Willow Farm Primary School – Hot Chocolate Friday! This week, teachers nominated two ‘always’ children from each class to be recognised for their consistent positive behaviour, kindness, and dedication to learning. These students embody our PRIDE values every day, setting a wonderful example for their classmates.
To celebrate their achievements, the chosen children got to sit in the posh teacher seats in the staffroom for a special hot chocolate treat! They relaxed, enjoyed a warm drink and a biscuit, and shared what makes our school community such a fantastic place to learn and grow. We can’t wait to welcome more outstanding role models each half term!

Over the past six weeks, our school has been delighted to host a pop-up swimming pool on site, providing children from Years 2 to 6 with daily swimming lessons. This fantastic opportunity has allowed our students to develop and improve their water confidence, swimming skills, and overall fitness in a fun and engaging environment.
We are incredibly proud of the progress the children have made, with many of them achieving personal milestones in swimming. This initiative has not only been a wonderful addition to our physical education curriculum but also an exciting experience for the pupils.
A big thank you to all parent volunteers and instructors who have helped make this possible. We hope to continue offering more unique opportunities like this in the future!
