History
At Willow Farm Primary School, we believe that a high-quality history education helps pupils gain a secure and coherent understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world. Our aim is to inspire children to become curious, confident historians, developing a lifelong interest in the past and a strong understanding of chronology through an engaging, enquiry-based approach.
Our history teaching encourages pupils to think like historians—to ask questions, explore evidence, and understand different perspectives. We ensure that history is taught in a fun and meaningful way, building on knowledge and skills year after year. We make learning come alive through the use of real artefacts, immersive experiences, and engaging educational visits, helping pupils to investigate and connect with the past in a tangible way.
The Willow Farm history curriculum is carefully designed to be knowledge-rich and highly engaging, offering a wide range of memorable learning experiences. It builds on children’s prior knowledge and understanding, and is thoughtfully sequenced to ensure concepts are revisited regularly, allowing children to deepen and embed their historical understanding as they move through school.
At Willow Farm, we aim to:
• Foster a love of history, encouraging children to explore the past and develop their historical vocabulary so they can confidently discuss and interpret historical events.
• Ensure that pupils learn about significant people, places and events in British and world history, helping them to understand how things have changed over time.
• Develop children’s chronological understanding, and promote skills in historical enquiry and investigation.
• Support children in understanding the development of society and their place within it, including their own cultural heritage and the local history of our area through in-depth local studies.
Through our history curriculum at Willow Farm, we aim to develop children who are inquisitive, informed and thoughtful, with a strong sense of identity and an appreciation for the richness of the past.
